SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen visits Tirana

Tirana-Albania-All Kosovo{Kosova]daily newspapers carry extensive coverage on yesterday’s visit by SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen to Tirana. Koha says that Jessen-Petersen and Albanian PM Sali Berisha shared the same opinion that guaranteeing human and minority rightsand dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade are important processes for further steps toward the final status of Kosovo.

Zëri says that Tirana calls for independence for Kosovo, and that SRSG Jessen-Petersen, PM Berisha and Foreign Minister Mustafaj share the same opinion that Kosovo’s final status will be achieved by respecting minority rights and through dialogue between Pristinaand Belgrade.

Dailies also report on the meeting between the SRSG and Albanian President
Alfred Moisiu. According to Koha, both officials said that Kosovo’s status is
expected to be resolved in 2006. Relations between Albania and Kosovo and the
future of Kosovo’s status were the main topics of discussion. “The standard for
building a real democratic and multiethnic society needs to be implemented in
Kosovo and problems can be solved only through dialogue and with the real
inclusion of minorities in central and local institutions,” said the UNMIK chief.
Under the headline Without conditions, Express says that the Albanian President,
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister without any confusion presented to the
SRSG the position of Tirana on the independence of Kosovo.F.F
