SRSG requests suspension of proceedings against Lekaj

In a letter sent by Jessen-Petersen to Belgrade, the latter has requested the Serbian
authorities to transfer the process against former KLA member Anton Lekaj to a
Kosovo court.

According to Zëri, Jessen-Petersen stated in the letter that UNMIK, in adherence
to UNSCR 1244, is authorized for criminal acts perpetrated in Kosovo and that is
why the proceedings against Lekaj represent a violation of the resolution and must
be suspended at once.

The paper, citing B92, writes that in a meeting last year between war crimes
prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic and the former UNMIK PDSRSG Jean-Christian
Cady, the latter had suggested that any proceeding against crimes perpetrators
should be taken at the site of arrest.
