Montenegro to join UN by the fall?
PODGORICA -- Milo Đukanović expects that Montenegro will be accepted into the UN by September of this year. After a meeting of the Montenegrin Parliament at which a declaration regarding relations towards the UN was adopted, Prime Minister Đukanović said that Montenegro will continue working with the UN agency and implement its equality missions. According to Đukanović, with the declaration for UN relations, Montenegro has established ties with the UN Charter and all other values promoted by the international organization. “We have stated a clear choice to continue the long tradition of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-confessional character in Montenegro, which make up our principle values.” Đukanović said. He added that he does not believe that Serbia will want to hold discussions with Montenegro before the May 21 independence referendum, but that it will have to hold discussions afterwards. “Serbia does not wish to hold dialogue now because its government is directly involved in the referendum campaign in Montenegro.” Đukanović alleged.
